Scope and sequence
A scope and sequence is the list of skills a program teaches (the scope) in the order it teaches them (the sequence).
In a phonics program it usually runs from letter sounds through short vowels, digraphs and blends to longer vowel patterns, syllable types and word parts. The order is deliberate: each skill leans on the ones before it.
Example
UFLI Foundations runs from Getting Ready lessons through Lesson 128, grouped into units.
Why it matters for the record
A student's place in the sequence is the single most useful fact about their instruction. Track the current lesson, not the date the program started.
