Dictation
Dictation is the teacher saying sounds, words or sentences for the student to write, as the spelling half of a phonics lesson.
It shows whether the student can go from sound to letter, which is harder than letter to sound and often lags behind it.
Why it matters for the record
Keep a dictation page from early in the year and one from late. The two pages are the most convincing progress evidence a parent will see.
