Blending
Blending is saying the individual sounds of a word and pushing them together to read the whole word.
It is the core move of decoding. Students start by blending two or three sounds and build to longer words and words with blends and digraphs.
Why it matters for the record
If a student can say each sound but cannot blend them, that is a specific skill to rate and review, separate from the letter sounds.
