Glossary
Explicit instruction
Explicit instruction means the teacher states the skill directly, models it, practices it with the student, and then has the student do it alone.
Nothing is left for the student to infer. The teacher names the sound, shows how it is read and spelled, and gives guided practice before independent practice.
Why it matters for the record
Rate the independent practice, not the guided part. A skill that works only with the teacher's help is Developing, not Secure.
