What the spreadsheet does well
It is free, flexible and yours. For one student and one curriculum, a sheet with the lesson list down the side and dates across the top is honestly fine, and plenty of people teach a full year that way.
Where it breaks down
- Nothing tells you what is next. You scroll to the last filled cell and work it out.
- Review lives in your head. A skill marked "shaky" three weeks ago does not come back on its own.
- Several students means several tabs, and a tab is easy to forget for a fortnight.
- Reports mean copying cells into a document, so they rarely get made.
- A parent or colleague cannot read it without a walkthrough.
What Literacy Trail does instead
