Literacy Trail vs. a gradebook or LMS

A gradebook tracks assignments; reading is taught in a sequence. School gradebooks and learning management systems are built around assignments, points and due dates. That shape fits a math unit. It fits structured literacy badly, where the question is not "what score did they get" but "which skill is secure and what comes next".

What a gradebook is for

Recording scores for assignments across a class, computing averages, and reporting grades. Schools need that, and a gradebook does it well.

Why it fits reading instruction badly

A lesson sequence is not an assignment list. Students are at different points in the same sequence.
Mastery is not a percentage. A skill is secure, developing or needs support, and that changes what you teach tomorrow.
Review is not an assignment either. It is a skill that comes back, and a gradebook has nowhere to put it.
Small-group instruction means one lesson, several outcomes. Gradebooks record one grade per student per assignment.

What Literacy Trail records

Per student: the current lesson, every lesson completed, and a rating per skill.
Per session: the date, minutes, a rating, an optional note, and optional observations (decoding, encoding, fluency).
Per group (Educator plan): one session, one rating per student, everyone advanced in a single step.
Review items with the date they are due, generated from the ratings.
Printable instruction logs and progress reports for meetings, files and parents.

Alongside the school systems, not instead of them

Interventionists and reading specialists typically keep the gradebook for grades and use a dedicated record for intervention. CSV export means the intervention record can be attached to whatever the school needs.
