Printable dictation sheet
Dictation shows what a student can use, not only what they can read. Eight words and two sentences, with room to note the part that went wrong, take about five minutes.

How to use it
- Say the word, use it in a short sentence, then say it again. The student repeats it before writing.
- For sentences, say the whole sentence, have the student repeat it, then write it without help.
- Note the part missed, not just right or wrong: the vowel, a blend, the ending. That is what to teach next.
- Keep the words to patterns already taught; dictation is practice, not a test.
